Perhaps best known for the low-grade robusta that it exports, Indonesia also supplies the gourmet trade with coffee from the islands of Sumatra, Java and Celebes. Some of the most famous coffees of the world are grown on these islands. They are noted for their richness, full body, long finish and an acidity that, though pronounced, is deep-toned, gentle and enveloped in the complexity of the coffee. These are ideal coffees for those who want a beverage heavy enough to carry its flavor through milk. These coffees invoke images of gigantic meals and wicker chairs. These are some of the world's finest coffees, often hard to find, but still moderately priced. Mandheling is the most full-bodied coffee in the world, you can feel the richness settling behind your tongue. The cup is vibrant and the body rich, smooth and full. Our Banda Blue is an exceptional Mandheling.

Java coffees share the richness of other Indonesian coffees but tend to be more acidic, a bit lighter in body and may also be slightly smoky or spicy. The old estates carry most of the good Java Arabicas - Jampit, Blawan and Kajumas. Excelco usually has one of these estates in our inventory.
